Trips for Kids is the nation’s largest, oldest, and most diverse youth development bicycling organization. TFK has enriched the lives of over 230,000 young people across North America using a simple yet powerful tool – the bicycle. Marilyn Price started the first small chapter in 1988. Since then, the organization has organically grown to a vast network of chapters offering free bicycling programs for over 20,000 youth annually throughout the US and Canada. Young people between 10-17 years old, primarily underserved, from neighborhoods, schools, agencies and community organizations have an opportunity to learn in these programs. TFK is helping to combat the physical inactivity crisis, promote equitable access to safe places to play and exercise, provide opportunities for physical activity in and out of school while building self-esteem, personal skills, and learn environmental stewardship.
Trips for Kids Mid-Columbia is a chapter in southeast Washington through Wheelhouse Community Bike Shop. The chapter has several programs allowing more kids access to bikes and riding and others through those new riders amplifying the organization’s impact through their actions. From “Earn a Bike” to bike clinics, these kids can enjoy the freedom that genuinely comes with riding a bike.
